 Our little secret

For almost 20 years now, Paolo Allegrini has been living in Rome's Via di Monte Giordano where he runs a small trattoria. He and his wife Viorica swear by the traditional Roman recipes of their home town, but they are also big fans of their own spaghetti con melanzane e ricotta, hearty minestrone and rich panna cotta.

Customers at Antica Taverna know that they can rely on the trattoria's skilled team and the culi nary talents of Paolo Allegrini. That's where he buys the top-quality ingredients for his dishes: aubergines, tomatoes, garlic, aromatic olive oil, ricotta, fresh herbs and, of course, coffee beans to make espresso. Employees at the store know exactly what products a customer like Paolo Allegrini needs and they are always happy to help.

Unfortunately, we didn't discover exactly what it is that makes the pasta at Antica Taverna taste so good. By the way: Paolo Allegrini did let us in on one little secret. It is the native olive oil that gives his sautéed aubergines their hint of fruitiness.

 A rustic and family enviroment

A rustic and family environment, animated by landlord Paolo Allegrini's liking, ago from frame to the dishes of the hard and pure Roman tradition, to taste him in the inside room, always a great deal full, or in the space to the open one leaned out on a characteristic piazzetta in the old Rome.

Most typical specialties include fillet of fried dried cod, mussels to the white wine, spaghetti cheese and pepper, rigatoni with the ricotta and eggplants, risotto to the yellow pumpkin and, among the dishes, saltimbocca, tripe, rabbit to the olives with cabbage fried.  The cacciatora with potatoes, as well as fresh and generous insalatone and classical contours as artichokes to the Roman and puntarelle. Sweets to the spoon done in house and good person you select of wines, among which that bio coming from the farm of family Allegrini.

  View of our clients

All our clients remain always with a good impression when they are our guests. That's one of the many good references as they were our clients:

"The best spaghetti bolognese ever!  The tomato sauce was really rich and the pasta was cooked perfectly.  I could taste fresh parmigiano-reggiano or pecorino cheese throughout the dish.  It was impeccable.  Also had a delightful appetizer of garlic butter cauliflower and clams with white wine, garlic and parsley.  God, I love this place!!!"
